言嶼交響：2025臺灣文學英譯工作坊
一、宗旨：給新銳譯者的國際工作坊
2021-2024年國立臺灣文學館與英國文學翻譯中心（British Centre for Literary Translation，簡稱BCLT）合作辦理臺灣文學翻譯工作坊，培育了許多譯者。2025年臺文館再次攜手BCLT，首度移師臺灣推出 「言嶼交響：2025臺灣文學英譯工作坊」，為有志投入臺灣文學英譯的新銳譯者量身打造深度專業培訓課程，包括翻譯實作、文化走讀、專題講座與論壇以及參訪原住民族的部落文學發展場域等。
工作坊特邀國際知名譯者程異（Jeremy Tiang）擔任導師，以及來自英國、韓國、日本、波蘭、捷克等國的資深譯者、學者、出版界代表與臺灣作家共同參與，期透過多元活動，全面強化學員對於臺灣文學的翻譯專業能力，深化對臺灣文學、文化與語言的理解，拓展國際譯者人脈網絡，並探索在文學翻譯領域的職涯發展與未來可能性，促進跨文化交流與專業對話。

四、時間與地點
（一）報名期間
即日起至2025年9月7日（日）臺灣時間（UTC+8）23:59截止（逾期不受理）。
（二）工作坊辦理時間與地點
2025年11月9日至14日，全程共6天。11月9日至11日在臺南，11月12日至14日移地臺東。
五、徵選名額與資格
預計錄取20名學員。凡年滿18歲，有志從事臺灣文學英譯之國內外新銳譯者，社會人士及大專院校與研究所在學學生皆可報名，不限國籍。報名者須依主辦單位提供之文本完成試譯內容，並檢附英譯參考作品。
六、參加費用
（一）本工作坊期間費用─由主辦單位安排及支應以下相關項目：
課程、講座、論壇與文化體驗
保險、住宿（5晚）及餐食
臺南至臺東之間的交通
（二）主辦單位另將支應部分交通費用：
1. 國內外具學生身分者：支應在臺居住地往返工作坊地點之高鐵或臺鐵交通費，憑購票證明實報實銷。
2.現居國外者：每人可獲最高新臺幣30000元的國際機票支應，支應上限為：
（1）來自亞洲國家最高新臺幣15,000元。
（2）來自亞洲以外國家最高新臺幣30,000元。憑購票證明文件實報實銷。
3.同時具上述兩者資格者，皆可支應。
七、課程內容
以文學翻譯實作、大師講座、論壇與文化深度體驗為核心，重點包括：
（一）臺灣作家分享創作理念，由工作坊導師親自帶領文本英譯實作課程。
（二）臺南城市導覽、文學與文化走讀、臺文館展示參訪。
（三）臺灣文學翻譯及出版專題演講及論壇：聚焦翻譯實務、出版市場趨勢、譯者職涯規劃。
（四）參訪原住民族的部落文學發展場域：由原住民作家帶領，透過翻譯課程探索臺灣文學的多元聲音與文化背景。
八、導師介紹
程異（Jeremy Tiang）
旅居紐約的新加坡籍譯者與小說家。翻譯作品超過30部，包括駱以軍、黃崇凱、張悅然、雙雪濤、英培安等華文作家的小說作品。同時從事戲劇創作與翻譯，包括雙語劇《Salesman之死》獲得2024年度Obie獎，其小說《緊急狀態》(State of Emergency)榮獲新加坡文學獎。與 Kavita Bhanot博士共同編輯《暴力現象：翻譯論文21篇》(Violent Phenomena: 21 Essays on Translation)。2021年至2024年擔任臺文館與英國文學翻譯中心（BCLT）合辦的「臺灣文學翻譯工作坊」導師。
九、報名方式
第一步
下載申請表格，並以英文完整填寫，包含試譯內容。
第二步
至臺文館藝文活動平台，完成個人基本資料填寫，並上傳以下檔案：
申請(含試譯)表格：檔名「申請表格_申請人姓名」（請轉存為PDF格式上傳）
翻譯作品：除試譯內容外，如有相關翻譯作品，請上傳檔名「作家_作品名稱_申請人姓名」
在學證明：檔名「在學證明_申請人姓名」
十、報名須知
（一）各項報名文件須以英文撰寫。
（二）請使用有效電子郵件，所有通知將透過Email寄發。
（三）徵選結果預計於2025年9月30日前以電子郵件通知。
十一、注意事項
（一）錄取者須全程參與工作坊，並配合主辦單位安排之課程與活動，活動結束後需協助填寫意見回饋單。
（二）國內學員需繳交保證金新臺幣3,000元，全程參與後全額退還，未能全程參與者不予退還；國外學員採用切結方式，免繳保證金，如未能全程參加，除特殊原因經主辦單位同意外，機票費用不予支應。符合交通費支應資格者，支應金額依實際核銷標準辦理。
（三）本工作坊為非營利性質，主辦單位提供學員餐食及住宿（青旅背包客棧或旅館雙人房，每位學員皆安排單獨床型，不同生理性別不同室）。
（四）申請表格內容須為本人撰寫，且保證無違法或侵害他人權益之情事，並禁止使用 AI 生成、重製、合成等手法。如經查資料填寫不實或有違反規定情形，主辦單位得取消其入選資格。
（五）主辦單位得視報名狀況，增加或調整錄取者人數。
（六）主辦單位將於工作坊期間進行拍照、錄影紀錄，以作後續活動宣傳使用，如不同意者請事先告知。
（七）本簡章若有未盡事宜，主辦單位保留解釋及修訂之權利。如因天候或其他不可抗力因素，經政府公告停班或停課，則活動順延，辦理時間另行通知。

A Symphony of Island and Literature:
2025 Workshop for Translating Taiwan Literature
Call for Applications
I. Mission: An International Workshop for Emerging Translators
From 2021 to 2024, the National Museum of Taiwan Literature (NMTL) collaborated with the British Centre for Literary Translation (BCLT) to deliver a series of Taiwan literature translation workshops, nurturing a new generation of literary translators. In 2025, the NMTL is partnering once again with BCLT to launch, for the first time in Taiwan, A Symphony of Island and Literature: 2025 Workshop for Translating Taiwan Literature. This intensive and immersive training program is tailored for emerging translators who aspire to specialize in translating Taiwan literature into English. The program combines practical translation training with cultural engagement, including guided cultural tours, keynote lectures and forums, and visits to Indigenous communities’ literary and cultural heritage sites.
The workshop will feature internationally acclaimed translator Jeremy Tiang as mentor, joined by writers from Taiwan, senior translators, scholars and publishing representatives from the Czech Republic, Japan, Poland, South Korea, and UK and other countries. Through a rich program, the workshop aims to strengthen participants’ skills in translating Taiwan literature, deepen their engagement with Taiwan’s literature, culture and languages, broaden their networks, explore professional development opportunities in literary translation, and foster cross-cultural dialogue.

IV. Date and Venue
(I)Application Period
From now until September 7, 2025 (Sunday), 11:59 p.m. Taiwan Time (UTC+8). Late applications will not be accepted.
(II).Workshop Schedule and Venue
November 9-14, 2025 (6 days total):
November 9-11 – Tainan
November 12-14 – Taitung
V. Selection Quota and Eligibility
A total of 20 participants will be selected. Anyone aged 18 or above, including non-Taiwanese citizens, with an interest in translating Taiwan literature into English is welcome to apply, including emerging translators, working professionals, and undergraduate/graduate students from both domestic and international backgrounds. Applicants are required to complete translation samples based on texts provided by the organizers and submit their Chinese-to-English literary translation work as reference materials.
VI. Participation Fees
(I)All expenses during the workshop will be fully covered by the organizers, including:
Courses, lectures, forums, and cultural experiences
Insurance, accommodation (5 nights), meals
Transportation between Tainan and Taitung
(II)Partial Transportation Subsidies Provided by the Organizers
Currently Enrolled Students (Domestic and International):
The organizers will subsidize transportation costs between the participant’s residence in Taiwan and the workshop venues for Taiwan High-Speed Rail or Taiwan Railways travel. Reimbursement will be provided upon submission of valid proof of purchase.
Participants Residing Overseas:
Each overseas participant is eligible for a maximum subsidy of NT$30,000 toward international airfare, reimbursed upon submission of valid proof of purchase. The subsidy limits are as follows:
Participants from Asian countries: up to NT$15,000 per person
Participants from non-Asian countries: up to NT$30,000 per person
Dual Eligibility:
Participants who qualify under both categories above are eligible to receive subsidies from both.
VII. Course Content
The workshop focuses on literary translation practice, master lectures, forums, and immersive cultural experience. Key highlights include:
(I) Creative concept shared by Taiwan writers, complemented by mentor-led, hands-on English translation sessions.
(II) Guided tours of Tainan city, literary and cultural walking experiences, and visits to exhibitions at the NMTL.
(III) Specialized lectures and forums on translating and publishing Taiwan literature, including translation practice, publishing market trends, and literary translator career development.
(IV)visits to Indigenous communities’ literary and cultural heritage sites: led by Indigenous writers, offering participants an opportunity to explore the diverse voices and cultural backgrounds of Taiwan literature
V. Mentor Introduction
Jeremy Tiang
Jeremy Tiang has translated over thirty books from Chinese, including novels by Lo Yi-Chin, Huang Chong-Kai, Zhang Yueran, Shuang Xuetao and Yeng Pway Ngon. He also writes and translates plays, including the bilingual Salesman之死, which won the 2024 Obie Award for Outstanding New Play. His novel State of Emergency won the Singapore Literature Prize, and he is the co-editor with Dr. Kavita Bhanot of Violent Phenomena: 21 Essays on Translation. From 2021 to 2024, he led the Literature from Taiwan strand of the BCLT Translation Summer School. Originally from Singapore, he now lives in New York City.
IX. Application Process
Step 1
Download the application form from the NMTL official website (www.nmtl.gov.tw) or the Arts and Cultural Activities platform. Complete the application in English, including translation samples.
Step 2
Fill in your personal information on the NMTL’s Arts and Cultural Activities platform and upload the following files:
Application form (including translation sample): filename “Application Form_Applicant Name” (please upload as a PDF)
Translation works: Along with the required translation sample, applicants must submit relevant Chinese-to-English literary translation works (published or unpublished). Please upload these files using the format “Author_WorkTitle_Applicant Name”
Proof of enrollment (for current students): Please upload a verification document with the filename “Proof_of_Enrollment_Applicant Name”
X. Application Guidelines
(I) All application documents must be submitted in English, except for Chinese names.
(II) Please use a valid email address; all notifications will be sent via email.
(III) Selection results will be sent via email by September 30, 2025.
XI. Important Notes
(I) Selected participants are required to attend the entire workshop and participate in all course activities arranged by the organizer. Participants must submit feedback forms after the event.
(II) Domestic participants must pay a refundable deposit of NT$3,000, which will be fully refunded upon full attendance . No refund will be issued for partial or incomplete participation. International participants are exempt from the deposit but must sign a letter of commitment. Unless approved by the organizer due to special circumstances, airfare subsidies will not be provided for incomplete participation. Transportation subsidies for eligible participants will be processed according to actual reimbursement standards.
(III) This workshop is non-profit in nature. The organizer provides meals and accommodation for participants (youth hostels or hotel twin rooms, with individual beds assigned per participant and separate rooms by biological sex).
(IV) Application form must be completed by the applicant, ensuring no involvement in illegal activities or infringement of others’ rights. The use of AI-generated, reproduced, synthesized, or similar methods is strictly prohibited. In the case where false information is or violations are provided , the organizer reserves the right to revoke the selection.
(V) The organizer reserves the right to increase or adjust the number of selected participants depending on application status.
(VI) Photography and videography will be conducted during the workshop for future promotional use. Please notify in advance if you do not consent.
(VII) For matters not covered in these guidelines, the organizer holds the right to interpret and amend the rules. In the event of government announcements regarding work or school suspension due to weather or other force majeure, the workshop will be postponed, with new dates announced separately.
